“I
am delighted to welcome the launch of
Women for Independence. It has my full
support and I look forward to playing my
part in it over the next couple of
years.
It's vital that women's voices are
heard loudly and clearly in the
independence debate. For me,
independence has always been less about
flags and the symbols of statehood and
much more about having the powers we
need to build a better future for
Scotland - one where we invest our vast
national resources in tackling child
poverty and securing world class
education and health services, instead
of wasting money on immoral weapons of
mass destruction.
I think that's a message that will
resonate strongly with women over the
next two years as we build support for a
yes vote in 2014.”

Sturgeon MSP
"To
give the people of Scotland the
confidence to vote YES, we have to
listen to everyone's questions,
concerns, answers and solutions, and
sometimes women's voice are ignored or
marginalised. So Women for Independence
will listen as well as speak.
This is not how politics is usually
conducted, and might make for a
different style of debate!"
Lari Don
"There are
significant gender differences in
support for independence with men
showing significantly greater enthusiasm
than women. Yet there are strong
reasons why independence could offer
greater potential to meet the
aspirations of most women in comparison
with the British state."
Isobel Lindsay
" In any country in the world,
the key to real change always lies
with the women of that country. They
bear the brunt of the impact of any
changes in education or healthcare
of the young and the old, as well as
dealing with general budgeting,
lower wages and poverty. It is
therefore natural that levels of
fear and apprehension over
Independence are high amongst the
female population of Scotland. This
Referendum will not be won without
the support of a large percentage of
women here. It is therefore vital
that Women for Independence is given
the support that it needs and is
recognised as vital to the debate
that is ongoing and at the heart of
the campaign in the run up to the
vote in 2014."
Elaine C. Smith
"Since I was a young lassie I
could never understand why we let our country to be
run by leaders in Westminster who in no way
represent the working folk of Scotland.
It's
time to take full responsibility for the running of
our land and look forward to a fairer, more
confident Scotland who has the freedom to realise
her full potential.''
