WfI National Council: Saturday, 24th July, 11am-1pm
We need more women in public life. We are sick of misogyny, bullying and harassment in politics and society generally. If you are thinking about what you can do, then this Women for Independence | Independence for Women National Council is for you!
Our themes for the event are linked: encouraging more women into public life and particularly the local authority elections next year, and also the rampant misogyny, bullying and harassment that exist in politics and online generally that must be so off-putting to women, which is exactly why we need more women to stand.
As WFI is not party- specific, we are keen to be inclusive and learn from the experience of those outwith the independence movement too.
We are delighted to have the following speakers:
- Talat Yaqoob, founder of Pass the Mic
- Lorna Slater MSP, Green Party and WFI member
- Emma Walker, CEO of Change the Chat
- Kat Cary of Reclaim the Streets, Edinburgh.
Women in Local Elections
If you have submitted an application to be considered as a council elections candidate in 2022, but are still swithering, this event might be exactly what you need to firm your resolve to progress. Even if you are not, you can be a part of the support network for those who are.
What do you need? What campaign activity could help?
Be part of the solution with the WFI #Sisterhood
Although WfI events are intended to raise funds, it is just as important to us to provide an opportunity for women to get together, support each other and enjoy themselves. For this reason, it's your decision how much you'd like to contribute for your ticket and as always free tickets are available for those who need them using the code WFIFREE.
